Preparation for laying a new lawn with turf
Step-by-Step Guide
- Clear the area: Remove any existing grass, weeds, stones etc down to the bare soil.
- Level the ground: Rake the area as level and smooth as possible. If needed, screened topsoil can help to get the required finish.
- Lay the turf: When laying the turf, work backwards to avoid walking over what you have laid. Working off boards can be helpful.
- Positioning: Lay whole pieces of turf on the outside edge of the area. Any smaller cuts, if needed, should be placed towards the inside as the smaller the piece of turf the quicker it will dry out. Lay turf as you would lay bricks (staggering joins).
- Level turf: For best results, put a board on turf and walk on it or use a roller.
- Water immediately: Start watering turf straight away.
